The Emerging Issues Committee provides a mechanism to assist ILSI HESI in identifying emerging scientific issues related to human health and environmental safety of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and consumer products. Topics of potential interest are identified through an annual survey of the corporate membership and key contacts in academia, government and the public sector. Emphasis is placed on ensuring international input to this process from a broad range of sectors. Topics are prioritized in the first quarter of each year and exploratory meetings held to determine the interest in and potential scope of activities. If warranted, an Emerging Issues Subcommittee is established to propose and develop a program of scientific activities.
