HESI Application of Genomics to Mechanism-Based Risk Assessment Technical Committee

Mission
The mission of HESI’s Genomics Committee is to advance the scientific basis for the development and application of genomic methodologies to mechanism-based risk assessment; to address scientific issues relating to the use of these new technologies as a means for understanding toxic response and mechanisms; and to provide a scientific forum for a consensus-based approach to interpreting and applying these data.

The HESI Genomics Committee executes its mission via multiple working groups with distinct projects and activities.  Active programs include a study using microarray data to assess doxorobucin toxicity in rodents (the study will compare array data with other metrics such as histopathology and serum chemistry) and planning for a workshop featuring case studies of the use of toxicogenomic data for safety and risk assessment.   The Committee is completing manuscripts on control animal microarray data, use of genomics and PCR to distinguish direct and indirect acting genotoxins, and the results of a survey on the current state of practice in the field of toxicogenomics.
